IKEA WORK EXPERIENCE

During the three week placement at IKEA, I was given the opportunity to work flexibly whilst undertaking several briefs involving projects which communicated IKEA’s brand and the clients needs. This involved implementing refreshes in a variety of showrooms and co-worker environments, producing moodboards, picking products to suit a particular user and scheme, drawing up floor plans on CAD, and costing the designs up. These projects helped me to gain understanding of the comfort, practicality and functional needs of certain user groups. This experience lifted my confidence massively with adapting to choosing bold products to fit colour schemes and styles such as Scandinavian Modern and Scandinavian Traditional whilst being able to work in a team and individually.

Below are some examples of refreshes which I implemented:

During the refreshing and picking process it was important that I adapted the scheme to the products available. This outcome was successful as the textiles match with a previous refresh I did in the office with yellow seating.

Due to not having the products in store which are on the website, I needed to find similar products which would still reflect the modern style which needed implementing in the showroom. It was important that I considered the user as much as possible when refreshing the room as the showroom gets viewed by a variety of different types of customers. In this circumstance the user was a young women in her 20s who lives alone.

The user for this refresh was a couple in their late 20s, early 30s living in a modern home. Considering all of the other showroom kitchens/ dining rooms in the area did not contain the colour red, I thought it would be useful to expand on using red to show customers different options of colour schemes.

The user for this refresh was a couple in the 40s and 50s living in a traditional home. It was important that the picnic element was brought out within this refresh to show customers what different styles could be possible in their own kitchen.

The user for this refresh was a couple in their 30s living in a home in the Suburbs with a rustic and Scandinavian Traditional style. In this particular refresh I experimenting with implemeting textiles and home accessories in an organic way to fit with the Swedish values.
